Biomedical Sciences (MS)


Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences Curriculum

The Biomedical Science program requires the completion of 30 semester credits, is more classroom intensive and does not require conducting original research.

Programmatic Aims 

  1. Graduates will demonstrate a foundation of knowledge in biology and biomedicine. 
  2. Graduates will demonstrate critical thinking skills. 
  3. Graduates will demonstrate career readiness and a commitment to life-long learning. 
  4. Graduates will be competitive for admission to a professional or academic doctorate program. 

Learning Outcomes

  1. A fundamental understanding of molecular biology, biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, and immunology. 
  2. An understanding of specialized biomedical topics such as microbiology, bioinformatics, embryology, histology, genetics, etc. 
  3. The skills to apply discipline-specific and broader knowledge in a range of different contexts and critical decision making. 
  4. Detailed understanding of the scientific discovery process and its role in biomedicine. 
  5. Develop a commitment to life-long learning and career pursuit within the health and biomedical sciences disciplines. 
  6. A recognition of the need for and an ability to engage in continuing professional development. 
  7. Foster a commitment to Health Equity and Ethics. 
  8. An understanding of professional, ethical, legal, security, and social issues and responsibilities. 
  9. An understanding of recent developments in biomedical science. 

Comprehensive Exam

Students are required to successfully pass a comprehensive examination after completing all required, non-elective courses. Students must pass the comprehensive exam to complete degree requirements in order to graduate.

Students may not reschedule comprehensive examinations. Students may retake the comprehensive exam once if they did not pass the first time.

Students who do not pass the comprehensive examination after their second attempt are dismissed from the program with no option to appeal. 

Coursework


Students are required to take 30 credits, including 21 credits of required coursework and nine credits of approved elective coursework.
