DMD 152 - Clinical Dentistry II



The Clinical Dentistry II course is the second in a series designed to equip student for the clinical skills needed for patient care. Taught primarily in the dental simulation clinic using traditional and simulated patients, this course focuses on developing clinical skills, digital dentistry techniques, and practice in other current technologies.

Students will be introduced to operative dentistry through preparation design and restoration. This course will focus on current clinical practices and emphasize the advancements of restoration use, digital dentistry and other current technologies. This course will also integrate, whenever possible, the information concurrent in the Biomedical/Clinical sciences, Foundations of Patient Care and Dental Sciences course material to support the relevance of this information in providing optimal patient care. Along with the specific clinical skills training and practice, treatment planning, diagnostic techniques, preventive procedures and dental materials will be fundamental throughout all Clinical Dentistry courses.
The focus in Clinical Dentistry 2 will be:
• Continued clinical proficiency with amalgam, composite and glass ionomer restorations
• Focus on time management during restorative procedures to best mirror a ‘normal’ patient appointment.
• Ease and familiarity with equipment operation and ergonomic positioning and practices
• Caries identification on radiographs before preparations on simulated patient
