PSYD 352 - Medical Illnesses in Late Life
This course introduces students to issues related to health promotion and medical illness in later life. Topics covered include review of physical changes in later life, the prevention of disease and promotion of health behaviors, common chronic, acute, and terminal medical illnesses in later life, addressing subsequent impairment and disability, and the relationship between physical and psychological symptoms. Issues related to pain management, medication use, ethical dilemmas, diversity, health care disparities, and effective interdisciplinary collaboration in a variety of healthcare settings serving older adults are also addressed.
