MED 140 - Gastrointestinal & Genitourinary



This course is a multidisciplinary course designed to provide knowledge necessary to understand and integrate the normal structure, development, molecular mechanisms, and function of the gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, and genitourinary systems. It covers multidisciplinary information related to the regulation of digestion, absorption, secretion and motility of digestion, as well as gamete production, fertilization, placental and fetal development, pregnancy, parturition and lactation. In addition, this course includes an overview of the regulation of mechanical, chemical, neural and hormonal systems that regulate and control digestive and reproductive processes. The course is structured to include lectures, directed reading assignments, case discussions, and cadaver dissection and radiographic anatomy of the primary and accessory organs of digestion and reproduction.
