MED 133 - Neuroendocrine

This interdisciplinary course introduces the foundational anatomy and physiology of the nervous system as well as the neural mechanisms controlling endocrine signaling. The course will include the gross anatomy, histological, embryological, and radiographic anatomy of the head and neck and the central nervous system, including neuroendocrine structures. This foundational knowledge will be delivered via lectures, gross anatomy lab, directed reading assignments, and case discussions. Normal structure and function will be emphasized with the application of this knowledge to determine lesion location and/or dysfunction within the neuroendocrine system associated with patient signs and symptoms. The course provides a basis for understanding the pathological conditions resulting from nervous and endocrine related systems dysfunction.
