MED 101 - Scientific Foundations of Medicine



This course is a multidisciplinary foundational course designed to build a knowledge base that will assist first-year medical students in understanding the material presented in subsequent sections. The course focuses on fundamental knowledge in areas of biochemistry, human metabolism, cell biology, genetics, nutrition, and immunology. These topics are presented via learning sessions using lectures, clinical correlations, medical vignettes, clinical integration sessions, simulation experiences, and directed readings. The course objective is to present the mechanisms underlying the normal function of the human body thus providing a foundation for understanding disease processes.
